1. Introduction

The Entrepreneurship Development Cell (EDC) and YES Bee Club of Don Bosco College, Yelagiri Hills, in collaboration with the Entrepreneurship Development and Innovation Institute (EDII), Tirupathur, organized a One-Day Promotional and Awareness Program on Entrepreneurship Development on 2nd February 2026. The program was conducted with the prior approval of the Principal, Dr. Ravi L., following the permission proposal submitted by Dr. Murugan.G, EDC Incharge, and Dr. Mahalakshmi.G, YES Bee Club Animator.

 

The event was designed specifically for final-year students across all disciplines to introduce them to entrepreneurial opportunities, government support schemes, innovation, and intellectual property rights. By partnering with EDII, a recognized institution under the Department of MSME, Government of Tamil Nadu, the program aimed to provide practical, policy-level insights and inspire students toward self-employment and venture creation.

 

2. Objectives

The key objectives of the program were:

  • To create awareness about entrepreneurship as a viable career path.
  • To introduce state and central government schemes available for startups and young entrepreneurs.
  • To explain the fundamentals of business planning, innovation, and intellectual property rights (IPR).
  • To foster an entrepreneurial mindset and encourage innovative thinking among students.
  • To strengthen institutional collaboration with EDII Tirupathur for future mentorship and support.

3. Participants and Dignitaries

The event was graced by the following dignitaries:

A total of 300 final-year students from various disciplines actively participated in the program, along with faculty members from all departments.

 

4. Proceedings of the Program

4.1 Inauguration

The program commenced at 2:15 PM with a prayer song performed by the college choir, setting a reflective and purposeful tone for the event.

4.2 Welcome Address

Dr. Murugan.G, EDC Incharge, delivered the welcome address, outlining the objectives of the program and introducing the chief guest and dignitaries.

4.3 Honoring the Chief Guest

  • Dr. Ravi L., Principal, honored the chief guest, Mrs. S. Divya, with a shawl as a token of respect.
  • Fr. Arokia Berdouil Raj, Campus Minister, presented a memento to the chief guest on behalf of the institution.

4.4 Keynote Session

Mrs. S. Divya conducted an engaging and informative session covering the following key areas:

  1. Entrepreneurship & Innovation:
    Redefined entrepreneurship as not only profit-making but also as problem-solving and transforming the world. She explained innovation as the practical implementation of creative ideas to add value.
  2. Government Schemes:
    Detailed schemes under EDII TN and District Industries Centre (DIC), such as TNYIEDP, PMEGP, NEEDS, AABCS, and women entrepreneurship schemes.
  3. Business Model Canvas (BMC) & Detail Project Report (DPR):
    Introduced BMC as a strategic planning tool and explained the components of a DPR for business planning.
  4. Intellectual Property Rights (IPR):
    Covered patents, trademarks, copyrights, industrial designs, and geographical indications with real-world examples.
  5. Interactive Q&A:
    Students actively participated in a question-and-answer session, clarifying doubts on scheme eligibility, funding, and IPR registration.

4.5 Session Handover

Following the keynote session, Dr. Murugan.G concluded the formal proceedings with closing remarks, summarizing the key takeaways and encouraging students to explore entrepreneurial opportunities with the support of EDII.

4.6 Vote of Thanks

Dr. Mahalakshmi.G, YES Bee Club Animator, delivered the vote of thanks, expressing gratitude to the chief guest, dignitaries, faculty, and students for their active participation.

 

5. Outcomes and Feedback

  • The program successfully raised awareness about entrepreneurship, government schemes, and IPR among 300 final-year students.
  • Students reported increased confidence and clarity regarding startup opportunities and support systems.
  • The session was rated as highly informative and motivational in post-event informal feedback.
  • Several students expressed interest in applying for schemes like TNYIEDP and PMEGP.
  • The collaboration with EDII Tirupathur was strengthened, paving the way for future mentorship and training programs.

 

6. Challenges and Learnings

  • The time constraint (1 hour 35 minutes) limited deeper discussion on certain topics. Future programs may be extended to allow for more interactive workshops.
  • Technical support for digital presentations can be enhanced to ensure seamless delivery.
  • Greater involvement of student entrepreneurs in sharing experiences could further inspire participants.

Despite these, the event was executed smoothly and received an overwhelmingly positive response.

8. Conclusion

The One-Day Promotional and Awareness Program on Entrepreneurship Development was a significant step toward building an entrepreneurial ecosystem at Don Bosco College. It provided students with practical knowledge, inspired innovative thinking, and strengthened institutional collaboration with EDII Tirupathur. The program aligned with the college’s commitment to holistic education and employability enhancement. We look forward to organizing more such impactful initiatives in the future.
