The programme aimed to empower students with knowledge of consumer protection laws, sustainable consumption practices, and grievance redressal mechanisms, thereby promoting responsible and informed citizenship.

Description of the Activity

The Citizen Consumer Club of Don Bosco College (Co-Education), Yelagiri Hills, organized a Seminar on Consumer Awareness for the benefit of students. The programme began with a warm welcome address by the club office bearers, highlighting the importance of consumer awareness in today’s dynamic market environment. The proceedings were efficiently coordinated by the Master of Ceremonies from the club.

The seminar featured an expert session by the Resource Person, JC. Adv. A. Thahir Uz Zaman, M.Com., LL.B., who provided valuable insights into consumer rights, responsibilities, and the legal safeguards available under the Consumer Protection Act. The session covered key issues such as unfair trade practices, misleading advertisements, online consumer frauds, ethical purchasing behavior, and sustainable consumption practices. Real-life case studies and practical examples helped students understand consumer grievance redressal mechanisms, including consumer courts and online complaint platforms.

The session was highly interactive, with students actively participating and raising questions related to everyday consumer issues and digital transactions. The programme was organized under the guidance of the Club Animator, Mr. Rajesh Kumar, M.Com., M.Phil., and the Co-Animator, Mr. Melvin Johnson, M.Com. (CA), PGDCA, whose effective coordination ensured the smooth conduct of the seminar.

The programme concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by the Citizen Consumer Club office bearers, expressing gratitude to the resource person, organizers, participants, and college management for their support.
